[11:11] <zumbrunn_> "Instead, I?ve now ported the Junction server-side to use the open-source Helma Object Publisher (Hop) codebase. Mainly, it is because Hop wins the production-ready, battle-scar test, and it?s architected pretty well."
[17:32] <peter_12> zumbrunn_: ping
[17:33] <zumbrunn_> hi peter_12
[17:33] <peter_12> hi. I'm trying to review all the Server-side JavaScript solutions out there
[17:33] <zumbrunn_> that could take forever ;-)
[17:33] <peter_12> I don't think so
[17:33] <peter_12> there are only a few to consider
[17:33] <peter_12> that are open source
[17:34] <peter_12> I'll be taking a look at Helma and OpenMocha
[17:34] <peter_12> what is the distinction between these two projects?
[17:34] <peter_12> OpenMocha is based on Helma?
[17:34] <zumbrunn_> forget about openmocha
[17:34] <peter_12> ahh ok
[17:34] <peter_12> thanks
[17:34] <peter_12> that was easy
[17:34] <zumbrunn_> it's bascially a framework on top of helma
[17:34] <zumbrunn_> like gobi
[17:35] <peter_12> so OpenMocha is dead?
[17:35] <zumbrunn_> there are some concepts in openmocha that I think are interesting
[17:35] <zumbrunn_> but I'll need to bring it up to date first
[17:35] <zumbrunn_> it doesn't run anymore with current helma builds
[17:35] <peter_12> ok. Thanks
[17:36] <peter_12> can I quote your replies here?
[17:36] <zumbrunn_> yes...
[17:37] <zumbrunn_> I'll pick openmocha apart and make a new release later
[17:37] <peter_12> ok
[17:38] <peter_12> what is the motivation for Openmocha?
[17:38] <zumbrunn_> soft-coding...
[17:39] <zumbrunn_> you can modify web apps in a hierarchical way...
[17:39] <zumbrunn_> and you can do this through the web browser
[17:40] <peter_12> ahh. Interesting idea
[17:40] <peter_12> ok
[17:40] <peter_12> I'll move on to other frameworks for now
[17:40] <peter_12> I'll be back when I look at Helma
[17:40] <zumbrunn_> then you can move code from that soft-coding environment to hardcoded files as needed
[17:40] <zumbrunn_> and as the code matures
[17:40] <peter_12> I know Helma, Phobos and Whitebeam will take the most time to look at
[17:40] <zumbrunn_> yes, that's probably the case
[17:40] <zumbrunn_> which peter are you, anyway?
[17:40] <zumbrunn_> do you have a URL?
[17:40] <peter_12> have you been following the Steve Yegge Rhino on Rails stuff lately?
[17:41] <zumbrunn_> yes, sure
[17:41] <peter_12> http://peter.michaux.ca
[17:41] <zumbrunn_> very cool what is happening with server-side js right now
[17:41] <peter_12> yes
[17:41] <peter_12> I feel like I need to catch up a bit
[17:42] <zumbrunn_> ok, just was on your pages today and yesterday
[17:42] <peter_12> :)
[17:42] <zumbrunn_> if you want, you can take a look at openmocha
[17:43] <zumbrunn_> it will work if you install it from it's download package
[17:43] <zumbrunn_> (if you do not try running it with current helma builds)
[17:43] <peter_12> I'd like to focus on projects that are currently actively developed like helma and phobos
[17:43] <zumbrunn_> now that you asked about it, I get more interested in it again myself
[17:43] <zumbrunn_> ;_)
[17:44] <peter_12> :)
[17:44] <zumbrunn_> yes, it's not an alternative to helma, anyway
[17:44] <zumbrunn_> it's just an app that runs on top of it
[17:44] <peter_12> ok
[17:44] <peter_12> thanks
[17:44] <peter_12> I appreciate the time
[17:45] <zumbrunn_> ...like Junction ;-)
[17:45] <zumbrunn_> http://trimpath.com/blog/?p=56
[17:46] <peter_12> Junction? I've looked at that. I broke it in minutes
[17:46] <zumbrunn_> no, I haven't...
[17:46] <zumbrunn_> I thought of it as client-side, so far
[17:47] <peter_12> unfortunately I don't think very good client-side code
[17:47] <peter_12> I don't think it is the right model for writing client-side apps
[17:47] <peter_12> but that's just me
[17:48] <zumbrunn_> but the thought of having something like it on the server-side seemed intriguing
[17:48] <zumbrunn_> I'll definitely look at it now that it is a helma app
[17:48] <peter_12> I'll take a look also
